*PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS - PLZ WRITE PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP AS YOUR LOCATION*

    Water. Power. Air.

Data centers need all of these. And they will take all of them from our communities if they are allowed. We, the people of Plymouth Township, call on our elected officials to PROTECT US. We need a MORATORIUM on data centers. If the Township is unwilling to institute a moratorium to protect us from these bad faith developers, then they MUST consider adopting ordinances that include rules to save our water, our power, and our air.

    Background

Data center developers have hopped on the latest development trend and are quickly pushing past local zoning processes to secure approvals and permits. In many instances, these developers will not operate the data centers. Instead, they are flippers. They outfit the buildings and then sell or rent to mysterious tenants. They are bombarding municipalities with these requests.

In Plymouth Township, a data center developer is looking at 900 Conshohocken Road for a 2.2M sq foot facility. It includes natural gas turbines, known for emitting hazardous air pollutants, diesel generators, and a cooling system that could use millions of gallons of water per day.

The developer has a history of lawsuits in Montgomery County that are public records. The developer misrepresented their standing before the Zoning Hearing Board in December. How can we trust this developer to prioritize the health and wellbeing of Plymouth Township when we cannot trust their honesty before our Zoning Hearing Board?

    Our Request

    1. Plymouth Township must institute a moratorium on data center development to protect our community from data center developers.

    2. If Plymouth Township is unwilling to institute a moratorium, they must create ordinances to protect us.

    3. Those ordinances must be developed in coordination with groups that have community interests in mind and have a history of protecting water, air, power, and the environment.

The Pennhurst property is a place of deep historical and environmental importance in our region. Right now there is a proposal to sell this land for large-scale data center development. While we respect the rights of the property owner we believe this decision would bring lasting harm to our community and future generations.

Data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity and water, increase truck traffic and noise and diminish the natural beauty that so many people enjoy through nearby trails and open spaces. Once the land is cleared and industrialized it can never be restored.

The Pennhurst property also borders private homes, the Southeastern Veterans Center and the Schuylkill River Trail. Protecting this land means preserving a peaceful environment for residents and veterans and safeguarding the trail experience for thousands of walkers, runners and cyclists who use it year-round.

We call on our local leaders, community members and the property owner to work together toward a solution that preserves the Pennhurst property, honors its history and protects the environment and quality of life for all who live, work and visit here.

By signing this petition you are adding your voice to the call to protect Pennhurst and ensure it remains a place of history, healing, nature and community.

    Additional Details:

For more context, the Pennhurst site is zoned for Mixed Use Industrial development, which means a data center is already considered an allowed use. Because of that zoning, East Vincent Township does not have the authority to block the project outright.

In response the township is drafting a new ordinance to establish guardrails and restrictions on data center development within East Vincent. The goal is to regulate where and how these facilities can be built and to address community concerns such as:

Noise and emissions from backup generators and cooling systems
Resource consumption including heavy electricity and water use
Traffic and site impact from trucks construction and ongoing operations
Environmental and community character impacts from large industrial buildings

(The image shown above is the current "data center sketch plan" submitted to the township.)

This means that while the township cannot stop Pennhurst’s owners from selling to a developer it is working to limit negative impacts by strengthening its code and setting clearer standards for any future data center builds.

Our communities in Packer Township and Banks Township are facing a significant threat to our cherished environment, peaceful neighborhoods, and overall quality of life. The proposed data center, if approved, will pave the way for drastic changes that could alter the very essence of our towns.

Not only will this development lead to increased traffic on our already congested roads, but it will also bring about excessive noise that our peaceful communities are not equipped to handle. Our green spaces, which we have nurtured and cherished, stand the risk of being overtaken by looming industrial structures. This development doesn't just threaten our landscape; it poses a significant risk to our environment. Data centers are known to consume massive amounts of water and energy, straining local resources and increasing pollution levels.

Moreover, the tranquil way of life we have come to value could be irreparably damaged. Our local wildlife and ecosystems could suffer, too—displaced from their natural habitats due to urbanization and pollution spikes.

We deserve better planning that respects both the environment and the people who call these areas home. Instead of sacrificing our communities for industrial gain, we should advocate for sustainable development that harmonizes with our needs and values. Let us rally together and send a clear message to the decision-makers that our communities are not just pieces of land, but homes, where generations have grown.

Please join us in voicing your opposition to this ill-conceived development plan. We must act now to protect our towns, our environment, and our future. Sign this petition to stop the data center from being built in Packer Township and Banks Township.

Living in West Finley, a peaceful rural community in Pennsylvania, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges we face with our limited resources, particularly water and power. The thought of a data center being constructed right in our backyard is not only alarming but could also exacerbate these resource constraints.

Data centers, known for their massive energy consumption and water usage, could severely impact our already strained utilities. As of now, our area frequently deals with power outages, and water is a precious commodity that requires careful management. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers consumed about 70 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2014, accounting for about 2% of the total electricity use in the United States. The implications for a small community like ours are vast and unsettling.

Moreover, the construction and operation of a data center could potentially disrupt the local ecosystem. West Finley is home to diverse wildlife and maintaining this natural habitat is crucial. Beyond environmental concerns, this project could also pave the way for increased traffic and noise, permanently altering our community's tranquil environment.

There's potential for alternative, more sustainable projects that consider our community's infrastructure and resource limitations. Encouraging investments in green technology or community-focused projects that align with the environmental identity of West Finley could be more beneficial.

We have a voice in shaping the future of West Finley. Let's stand together to protect our resources and maintain the unique charm of our community. Please join me in opposing the construction of this data center by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference and ensure sustainable development that respects our home.

Living in a quiet rural area of Covington and Clifton Townships in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, we cherish the tranquility and natural beauty that define our community. However, a recent decision by local supervisors threatens to permanently alter this landscape. Their vote to rezone 500 acres of our land for the construction of a massive data center brings both concern and alarm to local residents.

The proposed data center, with its 35 structures, will tower over our rural setting. Some buildings are planned to reach over 120 feet, overshadowing our countryside and disrupting our views. Beyond the visual impact, the data center introduces significant environmental risks. It includes the development of 35 wells, a move that can drastically disrupt local water tables, impacting the water supply for nearby homes and farms. Furthermore, the site location at the headwaters of the Lehigh River watershed poses a threat not just to our community, but to the broader ecological systems dependent on this vital water source.

The introduction of such an expansive industrial complex not only mars our cherished environment but also threatens to bring unwelcome light and noise pollution, disturbing the peace that we hold dear in our rural lifestyle. Additionally, this project requires leveling a square mile of our precious forest, erasing habitats for local wildlife and diminishing the natural beauty we all rely on.

Our priority is to maintain the unique character of our community and preserve our ecosystem for future generations. We urge local authorities to reconsider and halt this rezoning in favor of protecting the integrity and sustainability of our environment. Your voice matters in this fight to save our landscape from irreversible change.

Sign this petition to stand with us in opposition to this disruptive and damaging project. Help us protect the heart and soul of Lackawanna County today!

We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members, call on the Springdale Borough Council to deny approval and block the construction of the proposed data center by Allegheny DC Property Co.

This data center  has created serious concerns about the future of public health, costs, safety, and livability of our community.

    Our Key Concerns Include:

    • Health Risks: Data centers often rely on powerful backup generators and other industrial equipment that emit pollution, which may pose long-term health risks to nearby residents.

    • Excessive Electrical Usage: The electrical demands of large-scale data centers are enormous and could place significant strain on our local energy grid, increasing the risk of outages and long-term utility costs.

    • Noise Pollution: The constant operation of cooling systems, backup generators, and 24/7 maintenance activity will create unacceptable noise levels, particularly harmful in a quiet residential community like Springdale.

    • Decline in Property Values: The industrial nature of data centers and their associated risks are known to drive down home values and make the area less attractive for families and future residents.

We respectfully ask you to deny any zoning permits, approvals, or changes related to the building of this data center. In turn, we also ask that we explore alternative community-friendly options to develop the existing property.

We, the residents of Delta, PA, urge the halt of any data center development in our community due to the significant and irreversible negative impacts on our environment, vital resources, and overall quality of life. We never asked for this, and we definitely don't want the noise pollution, degraded air quality, or rising utility expenses that will follow.

To invest billions in an AI data center within a community unable to fund its fire department or proper road resurfacing is a profound insult to the residents of Delta. This is a clear point of no return for us.
